From 2006 onwards, Simon Crase spent ten years working as a successful writer, in journalism, and media and communications. This followed a varied career as a chef, manufacturing worker and student. His passion for writing appeared at an early age and he was a prolific storyteller in his youth. Following a 10-year lapse, Simon returned to writing in the mid-90s and 10 years later undertook a Diploma of Professional Writing & Editing, and successfully completed this with glowing praise.
Simon worked at ABC Radio Ballarat in 2007-8 as a radio producer and online content producer, before relocating to North Queensland where he secured a role as journalist at The Northern Miner. Then it was on to the Gladstone Observer where he was appointed Night Editor, Sports Editor and acted in a deputy editor role during his 18-month stint. In 2011, Simon moved to Myrtleford in North East Victoria and became the senior journalist covering the Alpine region.
Simon was appointed Media and Communications Officer for Federal Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan, in 2014, and stayed in the role until Cathy’s successful defence of her seat. Time for a change was right and after much encouragement and support from colleagues and associates, Simon decided to form Write Ideas.
